Schedule D from a Form 8949 worksheet

The 2025 Form 8949 tells you where each digital-asset checkbox total goes on Schedule D. This worksheet follows that map and writes nothing in boxes A through F. The instructions say not to use box C or box F for a digital asset. The file is a review with a tax pro. It is not a complete Schedule D.

The summary’s line 16 is the net of the included rows only. A row with missing basis stays on the worksheet and is excluded from that net. Carryovers, Form 6252, partnership K-1s, and sales that never entered this file are outside the figure. Ordinary income from interest, mining, or a referral is not a Schedule D line here. It is on the income summary. See Form 8949 for bitcoin and Form 1099-DA.

Questions

Which Schedule D line gets box I?

Line 3. Box G totals go to line 1b, box H to line 2, box J to line 8b, box K to line 9, and box L to line 10.

Is line 16 the whole return?

No. On this summary, line 16 is the net of the rows this worksheet included. Other Schedule D lines and other forms are outside the file.

Does an excluded row change line 16?

No. A sale that is missing basis is shown and left out of the gain total. Line 16 does not treat that hole as zero.
